Griffith Review is proud to announce its second round of Queensland Writing Fellowships. This initiative will also be supported by the Queensland Government through State Library of Queensland and Arts Queensland, and philanthropic funds.
Up to six fellowships will be awarded for 2017–2018. This is a first-rate opportunity for Queensland writers and those writing about Queensland, and represents a vital coming together of private donors and public funds, opening up new spaces for quality writing about the state. The work produced as a result of the fellowships will be published in Griffith Review.
Entries are now open, and close at midnight on Thursday 31 August. All entrants will be notified of the result of their application by the end of September 2017. Winners will be officially announced at the Queensland Literary Awards on Wednesday 4 October 2017.
Entry fee for the competition is $50 (including GST) for non-subscribers to Griffith Review and $35 (including GST) for subscribers. Entry fees must be paid via GriffithPAY. There is no charge for members of the Griffith Review Contributors’ Circle.
Professor Julianne Schultz AM FAHA, Griffith Review founding editor, said: ‘These fellowships will provide a wonderful opportunity for Queensland writers, and those writing about Queensland, to develop their work, be published and reach a national audience.
‘Griffith Review has a proud record as an incubator of creative writing talent in Australia. Over the past thirteen years it has published some 1,200 writers, and for many it was their first professional publication.
‘Following first publication in Griffith Review more than two-hundred books have been commissioned and published. Essays published in Griffith Review have also won or been shortlisted for major prizes in Australia and internationally.’
Griffith Review is grateful for the support of State Library, Arts Queensland, and our patrons and donors, particularly long-term patron Dr Cathryn Mittelheuser AM.
Successful work will be published in Griffith Review in 2018 or 2019 and at griffithreview.com.
